Thai Massage

This ancient form of body work originated 5000 years ago in Thailand, It combines the technique of breath, compression, acupressure, stretching and yoga. Known as the “lazy man’s yoga” Thai massage is the perfect combination of relaxation and full body therapy.

Private Yoga Lessons

The focus of one-on-one yoga lessons is;

•  Strengthen core muscles that are the foundation of healthy posture. And when out of balance can be at the root of most chronic pain.

•  Teach proper use of props to minimize chance of injury.

• Teach breathing techniques that are not only relaxing, but aid the body in eliminating toxins.

• Provide resources needed to develop a home practice, as well as preparation for group class.

Swedish Massage

First developed in the 1860’s in Sweden. This is the basis for most of western massage. Consisting of three basic strokes, this versatile technique can be used to address the whole person with the purpose of relaxing the body and mind. It is also an excellent way to prep or warm up muscles for deeper work.

Deep Tissue Massage

Just like the name says, this technique is designed to address deep muscle fibers. First Swedish techniques are used to warm up and locate areas needing attention. With knots or trigger points identified, specific pressure is gradually applied until a release is felt. This work can be uncomfortable, but at no time should be painful. We always encourage feedback between the therapist and client.

Myofascial Release

In a nutshell the fascia is like a 3-D spider web running throughout the entire body. Within this fascial web lies every structure in your body. Due to inflammation and trauma, parts of the fascial system become restricted potentially putting 200o pounds per square inch of pressure on surrounding structures. This restriction causes dysfunction, creating a situation where muscle groups fight each other instead of working together for optimal performance.

With fascial restrictions released, traditional joint mobilization and deep tissue techniques yield deeper releases along with longer lasting results. The ultimate goal is to restore balance, and improve the function of every joint in your body.

Sports Massage

Three Areas of Sports Massage

Athletic trainers know that keeping an athlete in top physical form requires a regular prevention and maintenance program, as well as on-site treatment before and after an athletic event. And, when strains, sprains, bruises, or other major injuries occur, a variety of treatment modalities may be necessary to speed healing and reduce discomfort.

Maintenance Massage

An effective maintenance program is based on the massage therapist’s understanding of anatomy and kinesiology, combined with an expert knowledge of which muscles are used in a given sport and which are likely candidates for trouble. The overall objective of a maintenance program is to help the athlete reach optimal performance through injury-free training.

Event Massage

Pre- and post-event massage therapy are tailored for distinct purposes.

Pre-event massage is used as a supplement to an athlete’s warm-up to enhance circulation and reduce excess muscle and mental tension prior to competition. It also improves tissue pliability, readying the athlete for top performance.

Post-event massage, on the other hand, is geared toward reducing the muscle spasms and metabolic build-up that occur with vigorous exercise. Various sports massage techniques enhance the body’s own recovery process, improving the athlete’s return to high-level training and competition, and reducing the risk of injury.

Rehabilitation Massage

Even with maintenance massage, muscles may cramp, tear, bruise, and ache. Sports massage can speed healing and reduce discomfort during the rehabilitation process.

Soft tissue techniques employed by sports massage therapists are effective in the management of both acute and chronic injuries. For example, trigger point techniques reduce the spasms and pain that occur, both in the injured and “compensation” muscles. Cross-fiber friction techniques applied during the sub-acute and maturation phases of healing improve the formation of strong and flexible repair tissue, which is vital in maintaining full pain-free range of motion during rehabilitation.

Hot Stone

This ancient form of healing is not meant to replace the power of healing strictly with the hands, but rather, is used as an adjunct to enhance the mainstream world of massage.  The stones act to support your musculoskeletal system, calm your central nervous system and ground (or center) both the client and the therapist.

The stones can be placed on the body to balance misalignment of the skeleton, or used as very useful tools in the hands of the practitioner to stimulate the healing process that lies within your own body.

Stones invite a spiritual component, increase circulation, bring more energy to the session, open the platform of healing and decrease inflammation when cool stones are added.  These benefits also allow the client to slip into a deeper state of relaxation and gently renew the sweetness of life.  It is a wonderful indulgence, one to be experienced first hand.

Pre-Natal

As you know, pregnancy can be a very taxing period in your life, with the physical and mental changes occurring in the body; pre natal massage not only eases the stresses of pregnancy, but is a learning experience for the mother to be.  The massage itself is tailored to meet the woman’s needs through all the cycles of her pregnancy.  It is the intention of the therapist to be sure that you are comfortable during your massage. Also learn gentle stretches, pillow positioning for comfort and breathing exercises for relaxation.
